We are very keen to offer the Edinburgh Showcase to as many young writers as possible, regardless of their ability to pay for it. We feel that the extremely high overheads associated with staying in Edinburgh during the Festival mean that the cost passed onto students would be a barrier to many people applying. With this in mind we have approached a number of organisations and asked them to help us fund the project so that it can be run at no cost to the students who take part. The good news is that we have managed to secure the funding needed, but the bad news is that the project will now run for the first time in Summer 2009 at the request of our new sponsors. We know that this will come as disappointing news to the many people who have already expressed an interest in taking part but we feel that our new partnerships will make the project accessible to people who would not have been able to take part otherwise.
